Visiting Professor James Jay Carney


I am delighted to introduce to you Prof. James Jay Carney (PhD), a Visiting Professor and a Fulbright Scholar AY2018/2019. Dr. Carney is an Associate Professor of Theology, Department of Religion, Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, United States of American.


Prof. Carney was invited and is being hosted at the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS), Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) for ten months i.e. August 2018 – June 2019.  Prof. Carney and family arrived in the country on 9th August 2018. He is engaged in:

  • Teaching two courses; Theology of Mission and Practice and Catholic Social Teachings to SASS full-time undergraduate students at the Main Campus, Nkozi,
  • Conducting research on Catholic Public Leadership in Postcolonial Uganda and will help organize an international Conference on Catholic Leadership in Africa funds permitting,
  • Participating in co-development of a new curriculum in the social science discipline,
  • Conducting seminar/mentorship of Postgraduate students in Research/Academic Writing at UMU Lubaga Campus.
  • He is open to collaborating with staff in areas of mutual interest.
