Understanding and promoting intangible cultural heritage

On 14th November 2018, the Center for African Studies at Uganda Martyrs University held a public lecture on ‘Understanding and Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage’. The lecture was given by Ms Barbra Babweteera, the Deputy Executive Director, Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) at Nkozi Main Campus.

This is part of a broader collaborative effort involving Kyambogo University, the Islamic University in Uganda, and Kabale University. We have collaboratively developed a very unique and noble interdisciplinary Bachelor of Cultural Heritage Studies which is in its final stages. For a number of reasons, African cultures have generally been marginalized in curricula of many academic institutions, and at a high cost. The idea in our initiative is not just to promote culture as a value in itself but to as well demonstrate the vast untapped economic/development opportunities it presents.
