UMU postgraduate students receive scientific data management training
The Faculty of Agriculture in partnership with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) and the African Centre of Excellence in Agro-Ecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE) have organized a 5 days’ Scientific Data Management Course at Uganda Martyrs University Main Campus Nkozi.
The training which started on 15th – 19th January 2018 is aimed at improving Postgraduate students’ research/dissertation skills especially in the use of SPSS, GENSTAT and other Data Management Soft wares.
In his Opening remarks, UMU Vice Chancellor Rev. Prof. John Chrysostom Maviiri appreciated RUFORUM and ACALISE for organizing such a training especially at a time when Postgraduate students need it the most to close the knowledge gaps. He appealed to participants to concentrate on research and become producers of knowledge and not just consumers of knowledge.
“As a Centre of Excellence, let us show that our products can address issues affecting the African Continent by using the research tools provided to help us sail through.” He said.
He was grateful to the Faculty of Agriculture for the collaborations and sharing of knowledge as a means of helping everyone Excel. “You are building us with resources to help boost knowledge and use it properly for our success,” he added.
