UMU graduates 718 students virtually
Uganda Martyrs University has graduated 718 students in the 26th Virtual Graduation Ceremony which was held on Friday 18th December 2020 at the Main Campus Nkozi under the theme: Like the Uganda Martyrs, the Lord will stand by me and give me strength. Out of the 718 graduands, 329 were female while 389 male.
Mr. Fabian Kasi, the Managing Director – Centenary Bank who was the Guest of Honour congratulated the University for its noble work of contributing to the development of needed human resources for the different sectors of society especially in areas of Business, Agriculture, Architecture, Education, Health, Medicine, Engineering, Governance, Information & Communication and Social Development.
“I am aware of the great contribution that Uganda Martyrs University is making in producing knowledgeable and skilled graduates who are morally upright. I confirm here that Centenary Bank has been a happy beneficiary of the quality graduates from this great institution,” he acknowledged.
He encouraged graduands to emulate the Uganda Martyrs who walked by faith to their final destination.
The Chancellor of Uganda Martyrs University Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa, congratulated the graduands, for striving to uphold their success through their moral, spiritual, academic, social, and physical being. He highlighted that Universities all over the world are operating in an unsteady, disruptive, and volatile circumstances due to political instabilities, financial crunches, and globalization which has affected the University as well. He therefore advised that there is need for the University to re-think the future of our position as a center of excellence and pursue to maintain it.
“UMU must rethink its operation along three key functions of a university, namely teaching, research, and community engagement,” Bishop Zziwa advised.
Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa is also the Chairman of Uganda Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese.
The Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. John Chrysostom Maviiri, applauded the faculty and staff for making a huge difference in the lives of our students through their outstanding commitment, hard work and caring.
“Thank you for providing rich and engaging, well-rounded experiences for our students,” he said.
He advised the students to plan for their next academic pursuit and keep in touch with their Alma Mater for any opportunities to further their intellectual and human development.
The graduation was aired live on NBS TV, Radio Maria and on all the University’s Social Media Platforms.
Meanwhile, on Thursday 17th December 2020, graduands were able to attend the Virtual Commencement lecture which was led by Prof. Waswa Balunywa, the Principal Makerere University Business School (MUBS) under the theme: What will post COVID-19 Employability mean for Ugandan Youth? Opportunities and Challenges for Ugandan graduates.
