Uganda Martyrs University graduates 2040 students

Uganda Martyrs University has held her 24th Graduation Ceremony today the 8th November 2018 at the Main Campus Nkozi, with a total number of 2040 graduands, receiving their degrees, diplomas and certificates in various disciplines. Out of the 2040 graduands, 999 students are female while 1041 are male.

The Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda Dr Louis Kasekende who was the Guest of Honour has advised graduands to take advantage of the various development programmes and financing schemes in Uganda to create their own jobs; adding that Uganda’s education system encourages critical thinking by students, based on rigorous analysis and respect for the facts. “Learning new skills may become a permanent and indispensable feature of a successful career”, he reiterated.

The Chancellor of Uganda Martyrs University His Grace Bishop John Baptist Odama, applauded UMU staff for their commitment to producing quality products and encouraged the graduands to be good ambassadors, by making a difference wherever they will be.

This is a landmark graduation event. The graduands are the sons and daughters of the Silver Jubilee. We are proud of you because you are a symbol of the abundance of streaming and tasty fruits of an institution that has become of age. Be good ambassadors by making a difference wherever you are going to serve

He expressed gratitude to all employers most especially Bank of Uganda for always welcoming UMU students for attachments and employment and requested for stronger ties in terms of professional advice on UMU academic programs and support to the University’s infrastructure development.

The Vice-Chancellor Rev. Prof. John Chrysostom Maviiri noted that this was the first graduation with the highest number of graduands in one sitting where 1140 received undergraduate degrees, 266 Masters Degrees, 487 Diplomas and 140 awarded Certificates. He added,

Also special in this graduation are the 34 candidates graduating in Engineering courses for the first time from the Faculty of Engineering at the UMU Campus in Fort Portal.”

The 24th graduation has preceded the climax of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations which will be held tomorrow on Friday 9th November 2018 with His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected to be the Chief Guest.
