The first stakeholders meeting for RCE Greater Masaka


The first stakeholder’s meeting for RCE Greater Masaka was held at the Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) main campus on 18th September 2018.


The RCE greater Masaka which is hosted by UMU was acknowledged by the United NationsUniversity in Tokyo in December 2015 and was inaugurated at Uganda Martyrs University main campus on 23rd September 2016. The RCE is a multi-stakeholder network of existing local institutions mobilised to provide all types of learning for a sustainable future working both individually and collectively to achieve the goals of education for sustainable development and sustainable development goals. The meeting was attended by representatives from Uganda Martyrs University, the host university, teachers, colleges, primary and secondary schools, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs).

The organisations represented in the meeting included Uganda Martyrs University, Nkumba University, Muteesa I Royal University, University of Kisubi,  catholic university of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, Mbuye Agricultural College, Ndegeya Primary Teachers College, Nkozi Hospital, Blessed Sacrament Kimanya Primary School, St. Maria Goretti Mopugwe Primary School, Rainbow Junior School Masaka, Lake Victoria Catchment Environmental Education Programme/ Nature Uganda, Makungula Youth Group, Gayaaza Nature Uganda Community, Eco-Partner Africa, Bisanje Tukolerewamu and Uganda National Association for Community and Occupational Health.


The meeting reviewed the progress attained and the challenges faced by the RCE since it was inaugurated. strategies for the RCE moving forward were discussed.
The global award received by the Lake Victoria catchment Environmental Education Programme as a flagship project in promoting of ESD which was at Okayama Japan in December 2017 was applauded.
