ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

Position:         Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance, and Administration (1 Position)

Duty Station: UMU Main Campus

Reports to:     Vice-Chancellor

 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is part of the Management Team hence a high level of experience is expected from the candidate. S/he should ordinarily be a Ph.D. holder.  The candidate should have a minimum senior managerial experience of at least eight (8) years in a reputable organization and a satisfactory record of service to the community. The candidate should have good interpersonal and communication skills. This position requires a high level of integrity, soft skills, and confidentiality.  S/he should be a team player and a witness to values.  Please note that the remuneration for this position is attractive.

Job responsibilities

As part of the Management Team, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance, and Administration should be able to advise the Vice-Chancellor on financial matters of the University.  The job description will include the following;

  1. Assisting the Vice-Chancellor in the performance of his functions.
  2. Be the Chief Operations Officer responsible for matters relating to finance and administration.
  3. Be responsible for the planning and management of the financial, human and material resources of the University.
  4. Performing such other functions that may be delegated by the Vice-Chancellor or assigned by the University Council.
  5. Be responsible for non-academic functions of the Management, development and growth of the University.
  6. Be the Chairperson of the Internal Finance Committee.
  7. Be the Chairperson of the Staff Development Committee.
  8. Be Chairperson of the Internal Finance Committee.
  9. Be the Chairperson of the Staff Disciplinary Committee;
  10. Be the Chairperson of the Students’ Scholarship Committee.

Position:         Chief Finance Officer (1 Position)

Duty Station: UMU Main Campus

Reports to:     Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The Chief Finance Officer is part of the Management team hence a high level of experience and competence is expected from the candidate. The candidate should be an experienced Certified Public Accountant.  S/he should have a relevant Bachelor’s degree obtained from a recognized University. A Masters degree is an added advantage.  The candidate should have over 10 years of experience while working with a reputable organization and a satisfactory record of service to the community. The candidate should have good interpersonal and communication skills. This position requires a high level of integrity, soft skills and confidentiality.  Please note that the remuneration for this position is attractive.

Job responsibilities

As a Management member, the Chief Finance Officer should be able to engage with various members of the University, both at senior and junior levels. The job description will include the following;

  1. Provide leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting team;
  2. Provide strategic recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor and members of the management team;
  3. Drive the financial planning and management processes including financial forecasting and overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting;
  4. Advice on long-term business and financial planning;
  5. Lead in the development and use of best-practice, policies and tools that ensure a well-controlled university with strong fiscal and project management, cross-team communications and workflow;
  6. Establish and develop relations with senior management, external partners and stakeholders including donors;
  7. Perform risk management that includes analyzing and monitoring the universities’ liabilities and investments;
  8. Advice on investment activities and funding options that will enhance the capacity of the university to sustain itself in both short and long term;
  9. Review all formal finance and IT related procedures and
  10. Ensure compliance with various laws and regulations when preparing the financial reports.

Position:                     Finance Officer (1 Position)

Duty Station:             UMU Main Campus

Reports to:                 Chief Finance Officer

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should possess a relevant Bachelor’s Degree (or its equivalent). A Master’s Degree is an added advantage. S/he should have enrolled for ACCA/CPA and completed all subjects in level 2.  S/he should have at least two years experience within the accounting field. S/he should be conversant with accounting software like Quick book, Tally etc.  S/he should have satisfactory record of service to the Community.  S/he should have soft skills and a high degree of integrity.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Oversees all revenue received from students on Zeevarsity
  2. Manage monthly revenue from other sources such as electricity, water, rent, money-generating projects, etc.
  3. Compiles the monthly figures for management accounts reports
  4. Assist the CFO in managing all aspects of management accounting
  5. Be responsible for preparing management accounts
  6. Be responsible for recording, processing and posting all transactions relating to all University Projects
  7. Reviewing bank reconciliations
  8. Coordinate external audits.
  9. Be in charge of payables
  10. Do overall supervision of the Annual Stocktaking
  11. Carry out any other function that may be required by relevant authorities.

Position:         Accounts Assistant (1 Position)

Duty Station: UMU Mbale Campus

Reports to:     Finance Officer

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.  S/he should have enrolled for ACCA/CPA and completed all subjects in level 2.  S/he should at least possess working experience of two years within accounting field.   8. Prepare the draft Final Accounts.
  9. Participate in the annual stocktaking.
  10. Carry out any other duty assigned to them by the relevant authority.

Position:         Cashier (1 Position)

Duty Station: UMU Kabale Campus

Reports to:     Finance Officer

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should possess a Diploma in a relevant field.  A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage. S/he should at least possess working experience of two years within accounting field. S/he should be conversant with accounting software like Quick Book, Tally.  S/he should have a satisfactory record of service to the community.

Vice Chancellor’s Office

Position:         Front Desk Officer

Duty Station: UMU Main Campus

Reports to:     Public Relations Officer

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should possess a Diploma in a relevant field. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage.  The Candidate should be knowledgeable and ready to learn about the University, self-driven, reliable at all times and punctual.  S/he should have good interpersonal and communication skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Attend to the Front Desk, incoming and outgoing telephones calls. This should be professionally done and must follow telephone etiquettes.
  • Monitor calls and direct callers to the concerned Officers.
  • Maintain a visitors’ register, clear and direct them to where they should go.
  • Maintain (register) telephone contacts of employees.
  • Confirm appointments with Officers in the University.
  • Receive letters and dispatch them to their respective destinations.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by relevant authority.

ICT Department

Position:         ICT Technician (1 Position)

Duty Station: UMU Main Campus

Reports to:     Head, ICT

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, passed with at least an Upper Second, three years working experience as an ICT Technician in a busy organization.  S/he should have a satisfactory record of service to the community.

Job Responsibilities

  1. The ICT Technician reports to the immediate supervisor and provides hardware and software
  2. Maintenance, training and consultation, and recommendations about future planning and development of resources.
  3. Ensure technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software
  4. Troubleshoot hardware, software and network operating system
  5. Be familiar with all hardware and software
  6. Be familiar with network operating system
  7. Provide orientation to new users of existing technology
  8. Train staff about potential uses of existing technology
  9. Train staff about new and potential use

Position: Computer Lab Attendant

Duty Station: UMU Ngetta Campus

Reports to:     Campus Director

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should have a Diploma in a relevant field, two years working experience as a Computer Lab Attendant in a busy organization.  S/he should have a satisfactory record of service to the community.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Monitoring and managing the Computer Laboratory of the Campus
  2. Opening and closing the Laboratory day and night.
  3. Overseeing the usage of the resources in the Laboratory.
  4. Ensuring that the facility and the resources are not vandalized by the students.
  5. Performing any other duties as may be assigned to you by the Head of ICT from the main Campus and the Director of Ngetta Campus.

ACADEMIC POSITIONS

Faculty of the Built Environment

Position:         Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in the Faculty of the Built     Environment (Multiple Positions)

Reports to:     Dean, Faculty of the Built Environment

Duty Station: Main Campus, Nkozi

Academic Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the position of Lecturer must have a minimum of a professional degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Engineering, or another Design based discipline (as appropriate). A research degree is an added advantage.

Applicants for the position of Senior Lecturer should have a minimum of a higher degree by research and/or substantial teaching and research experience, as well as and publications.

Applicants for the position of Associate Professor should have a minimum of a PhD, a substantial teaching and research experience as well as a substantial record of research and publications.

    Teach, and carry out research in Environmental Design, Sustainable Architecture or Building Services.

The candidate should have a Master’s Degree in Agriculture; a Ph.D. is an added advantage: S/he should at least have a second class honor – Upper-division.   S/he should have a minimum teaching experience of 3 years at Assistant Lecturer or Lecturer level in a recognized University or in a related activity in a recognized institution. S/he should have experience in research supervision at Masters Level.
