Faculty of the Built Environment

Dean, Faculty of the Built Environment

Duty Station:             Main Campus, Nkozi

Reports to:                 Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should have a minimum of a Masters Degree in Architecture or a related discipline. Preferences will be given to Ph.D. holders. A minimum of five (5) years teaching and research experience at Tertiary level, and in a Management level position, is preferred. The candidate must be conversant with contemporary issues in architectural education, be action orientated, and have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, particularly the ability to manage multiple and diverse academic programmes simultaneously. A strong commitment to academic leadership, integrity, creativity, and vision, with respect to the future development of the Faculty of the Built Environment at UMU would also be highly valued. The post of Dean, Faculty of the Built Environment is appointed at a level at Senior Lecturer in Architecture, or higher. Applicants should, therefore, demonstrate teaching and research experience in one of the areas of specialty within the Faculty of the Built Environment (Such as; Architecture Design, Architectural Construction, Environmental and Sustainable Architecture, or Landscape Architecture).

Key responsibilities

  • To lead the academic team and be the administrative head of the Faculty.
  • To be responsible for the overall planning of academic programmes and their continual reassessment to ensure meaningful academic outcomes.
  • To be responsible for the implementation of effective research policies and strategies within the Faculty, and the support of staff members to meet such research objectives.
  • To oversee quality assurance processes.
  • To advise the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs on issues concerning the Faculty.
  • To establish/maintain links with relevant educational, professional, and community groups for advice and support where required.
  • To be involved in the future development and expansion of the faculty as well as the marketing strategy both nationally and internationally.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Architecture (Environmental Design) (1 Position Full-time)

Reports to:                 Dean, Faculty of the Built Environment

Academic Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the position of Lecturer must have a minimum of a professional degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Engineering, or another Design based discipline (as appropriate). A research degree is an added advantage.

Applicants for the position of Senior Lecturer should have a minimum of a higher degree by research and/or substantial teaching and research experience, as well as and publications.

Applicants for the position of Associate Professor should have a minimum of a Ph.D., a substantial teaching and research experience as well as a substantial record of research and publications.

Key responsibilities

Teach, and carry out research in Environmental Design, Sustainable Architecture or Building Services as well as initiate, support and enhance knowledge and skills in design.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Architecture (Architectural Design) (2 Positions Full-time)

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should be in possession of a relevant Masters Degree with three (3) years working experience in a reputable organization. Past experience in working with students in a University or similar institution will be an added advantage.

Personal Attributes

S/he should have a track record of high integrity with interpersonal relation skills, leadership, and people skills. S/he should have the ability to understand student behavioral patterns, group dynamics and inspire disciplined behavior. S/he should have proven ability to manage teams and transfer skills and knowledge to others through formal training and technical support. S/he should be computer literate.

FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE

Senior Lecturer

Academic Qualifications and Experience

The candidate should be in possession of a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics or a related field from a recognized institution. S/he should be with a satisfactory record of teaching, research, publication, and service to the academic and wider community.

Lecturer of Monitoring and Evaluation

Senior Lecturer in Agriculture

The candidate should be in possession of a relevant Ph.D. Degree in Agricultural Sciences or/and a relevant Masters with a minimum of Five (5) years of service at Lecturer level. FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

Position:                     Lecturer (3 posts for Population and Reproductive Health)

Reports to:                 Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences

Academic Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the position of a Lecturer must have a minimum of Master’s Degree in Public Health, Population & Reproductive Health & any other related master Degree with at least 3 years working experience in a reputable Health Organization. In addition to the Master’s Degree, the candidate should in possession of a professional degree in Medicine & Surgery; Environmental Health Sciences; Public Health; Demography & Population Studies: Nursing & Midwifery or any other health-related degree. A Ph.D. Degree or its equivalent will be an added advantage. S/he should be with a satisfactory record of teaching, research, publication, and service to the academic and wider community

Lecturer (2 posts for Health Promotion)

Duty Station:              Main Campus – Nkozi

Reports to:                 Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences

Academic Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the position of Lecturer must have a minimum of Master’s Degree in Public Health, Behavioral Health Sciences, and Health Promotion with at least 3 years working experience in a reputable Health Organization. In addition to the Master’s Degree, the candidate should in possession of a professional degree in Medicine & Surgery; Environmental Health Sciences; Public Health; Nursing & Midwifery; Social Sciences; Community Psychology or any other health/ Social sciences related degree. A Ph.D. Degree or its equivalent will be an added advantage. S/he should be with a satisfactory record of teaching, research, publication, and service to the academic and wider community
