JAG Meeting on Gender Responsiveness


On the 7th of March, the TESCEA Technical Steering Group (TSG) at Uganda Martyrs University together with the TESCEA Joint Advisory Group (JAG) organized a Meeting at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. The aim of the meeting was to discuss barriers facing women graduates as they seek employment and the response to gender inequalities in higher education and workplaces.

There meeting had two main speakers, one from academia, Mr. Esibo Omada from Uganda Martyrs University, who discussed issues of gender in higher education and one from the practitioners of gender in the private sector, The Director FOWODE (Forum for Women in Democracy) Ms. Juliet Nakato Odoi, who discussed barriers to women and advancement. She pointed out as barriers; Male privilege,  Stereotypes, Patronage, and generalization of women (i.e, women perceived as weak). The meeting helped to understand better the concept of gender as well as coming up with action plans.
