Africa Higher Education Institutions are experiencing an age of discontinuity– Alternatively, it can be said that HEI”s is facing perfect storm conditions.

Now is a time when, both in a global and local context, current socio-political and socio-economic paradigms are under severe strain.

From a general systems perspective, when paradigms are under severe strain, it is normally the prelude to something new – the emergence of a new complexus with totally new paradigms and in all probability totally different contextual conditions – conditions that will be totally different and vastly more complex than before.

The situation for HEI’s, in general, is one of extreme volatile socio-economic, socio-technological as well as technological conditions. Our HEI’s are bombarded by demands for value innovation to ensure equitable access and success, relevance of research and learning & teaching and meaningful societal impact – as key agents in the various ecosystems aimed at optimal societal development.

The message is very clear: HEI’s in general, in response to the demands of the emerging complexus, will have to be transformed into something new, something totally different and better to what they have been before. This is the undeniable imperative, exacerbated by the acute need that this desired transformation (metamorphism), is perhaps already overdue. It should therefore be embarked on with the utmost sense of urgency,

AS HEI leaders we cannot and should not avoid this daunting challenge. Should we fail in our fundamental duty to effect the successful transformation of our perspective HEIs, we will definitely be ‘put back to zero’ and our HEIs will become distinct dinosaurs who had their heyday in the 20th century and became distinct in the 21st century.

AS executive level HEI leaders it is therefore incumbent upon us that we should courageously embrace rather than ignore the future (there is no alternative) and lead our HEI’s into this complex future. This is the core leadership imperative in contempory HEIs.

The workshop will allow university leaders to reflect on the unfolding paradigms and equip them with competencies to align their respective HE”s with the future  – to ensure that they have a high probability to be successful in the unavoidable emerging complexus.

The workshop is structured in such a manner that it provides ample time for:

  • Short keynote inputs
  • Facilitated group discussions
  • Individual presentations by participating HEIs (limited to 15 min PowerPoint-based presentations.)

The target audience for this workshop consists of Chairpersons, members of University Councils, Vice-Chancellors, their executive leadership teams, Registrars, Chief Human Management and Finance executives.

You are therefore cordially invited to attend this key workshop and to hone the collective leadership of your HEIs leaders so as to successfully embrace the complex future.

You are therefore invited and urged to participate in this paradigm-changing workshop.

Kind regards

Prof E Ehile
