Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private, not-for-profit University, owned by the Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops of Uganda. It is set to host the World Bank Center of Excellence in Agro-ecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE).


The Center is looking for self motivated, dynamic and ethically upright people to fill a number of positions based at its main office at the Faculty of Agriculture, Nkozi.

1. Job Title: Internal Auditor(1 Position)
Organization: Uganda Martyrs University
Duty Station: Nkozi, Uganda
Remuneration: Attractive package

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

In charge of examining correctness of financial records and completeness of
documentation;

Responsible for verifying receipts, match and undertaking on-line reconciliation of
invoices and Local Purchase Order for goods and services procured prior to effecting
payments;

In charge of reviewing the completion of accountability returns, verify and retire advance
ledgers;

Reviewing periodic bank reconciliations;

The job holder will be verifying payroll change request and reports to ensure correctness
of computations, payments and deductions, certify and follow-up approval and payment of beneficiaries;

Perform any other duties as be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The applicants for the Internal Auditor Placements should be Ugandans holding Honours Bachelor’s Degrees in Finance and Accounting or B.Com (Audit/Accounting Option) or BBA/Studies (Audit/Accounting Option) or full Professional qualifications in Accountinglike ACCA or CPA or CIMA or equivalent professional qualification in Accountancy
obtained from a recognized awarding Institution affiliated to IFAC.

Professional qualification in Internal Audit, like Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified
Information Audit (CISA), or equivalent professional qualification in Internal Audit is an added advantage.

2. Head ICT, Partnerships and Information (1 Position)
Organization: Uganda Martyrs University/ACALISE
Duty Station: Nkozi, Uganda

Key duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for ICT related duties, Management Information systems and Partnerships.

Create and manage ACALISE website on daily basis

Advise on purchase and carry out maintenance of ACALISE ICT appliances and systems

Arrange and maintenance of partnerships

Arrange student and Faculty mobility

Organizing logistics during project activities

Create ACALISE information System and records data base in liaison with the University MIS

Advise the PI on Schedules and proper follow of project activities

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Postgraduate qualification and research experience in Agricultural Sciences

A postgraduate degree in ICT – related fields

Demonstrate leadership and management ICT teams

Effective communication

Awareness of new technologies and implications of adopting the technologies

Experience in project work

Knowledge of Learning Management Systems

Three years of relevant experience in management of ICT systems

Experience in research is essential

The candidate should be mature, self driven and ready to work under pressure.

3. Procurement Assistant(1 Position)
Organization: Uganda Martyrs University/ACALISE
Duty Station: Nkozi, Uganda

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans, prioritizes, assigns and supervises procurement of goods and services for ACALISE in liaison with ACALISE management

Reviews, analyses and recommends procurements to ACALISE management and Procurement Committee after competitive bidding

Ensures compliance with PPDA and World Bank Procurement procedures

Follow up prompt payment to vendors according to the approved purchase order agreement; punctual delivery of goods and services by the vendor; proper receipt and clearance of any materials, supplies, or equipment, and conducts negotiations of any returns or adjustments
which may become necessary.

Prepares a weekly procurement progress log for sharing with all staff with up-to-date status of the procurements.

Prepare periodic procurement reports.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Should preferably hold a Degree in Procurement and Logistics and a Diploma in business related field. A professional qualification in Procurement is an added advantage.

A minimum of two years of working experience in a relevant field in the INGO is essential.

Computer literacy i.e. experience in use of Microsoft office applications i.e. word, excel and power point.

Ability and willingness to learn World Bank procurement procedures

Very well organized and able to work under pressure

Excellent interpersonal skills

4. M&E Consultant/Consultancy firm(1 Position)
Organization: Uganda Martyrs University/ACALISE
Duty Station: Nkozi, Uganda

Key responsibilities and duties

Develops the overall framework of the Monitoring and Evaluation activities of the Centre.

Clarifies the responsibilities and monitors the work plan and the detailed budget for the monitoring and evaluation activities.

The officer guides and coordinate the review of programme log-frames including:

Providing technical advice for their vision of performance indicators;

Ensuring that realistic intermediate and end-of-programme targets are defined;

Conducting a baseline study on monitoring and evaluation in the ACALISE programme, and identifying sources of data, collection methods and resources needed and related cost.

Contributes to the development of the Implementation Plan(IP), ensuring alignment with IP strategy, agreement on programme indicators and inclusion of monitoring and evaluation activities in the work plan.

Review and provide feedback to programmes on the quality of methodologies established to collect monitoring data, and document the protocols that are in place for the collection and aggregation of the data

He will establish an effective system for assessing the validity of monitoring and evaluation data through aview of activities/ installations, completed monitoring forms/ databases, and a review of aggregate level statistics reported.
Qualifications and Experience

An advanced qualification in Business Administration and Management/ Project Planning and Management with a Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation is essential.

Three year experience in a busy M&E firm is essential, particularly in an Agricultural-related field.

M&E Firms should be properly registered in Uganda and show evidence of Tax clearance, and must be members of the Uganda Monitoring and Evaluation Association

5. Farm Manager(1 Position)
Organization: Uganda Martyrs University/ACALISE
Duty Station: Nkozi, Uganda

Key duties and responsibilities

Responsible for planning,organizing and managing the activities of a mixed farm.

Specific tasks will include:

Responsible for day-to-day management of the University Farm

Provides technical advice to ACALISE leadership on strategic activities to implement
innovations and commercialization of products

Supervises the support staff of the Farm

Custodian of farm equipment, machines, and all property on behalf of ACALISE

Planning production to maintain farm progress against set targets;

Oversee practical activities: Maintenances of machinery and farm buildings, feeding
livestock, and students’ practicals;

Oversees marketing the farm’s products;

Planning activities for farm staff, trainees and interns;

Understanding the implications of the weather and making contingency plans;

Ensuring that farm activities comply with ACALISE requirements;

Monitoring animal health and welfare

Maintaining a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread
and how to treat them;

Applying health and safety standards across the farm estate;

Protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity;

Keeping financial and other farm records up to date.

Qualifications and Experience

Should be a holder of a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural field preferably with a diploma in
Agriculture from a recognized Institution. Knowledge and a qualification in Organic Agriculture
or Agro-ecology will be an added advantage. Three years of relevant experience as a farm
manager in a large progressive farm is essential. The job requires a dynamic person, self
motivated and capable to work under less supervision.

6. Accounts/ Budget Officer(1 Position)
Organization: Uganda Martyrs University/ACALISE
Duty Station: Nkozi, Uganda

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Administers and monitors the financial system in order to ensure that all sundry finances are
maintained in an accurate and timely manner

Assists with preparation of the budget;

Implements financial policies and procedures;

Establishes and maintains cash controls;

Establishes, maintains and reconciles the general ledger;

Monitors cash reserves and investments;

Prepares and reconciles bank statements;

Establishes and maintains supplier accounts;

Processes supplier invoices;

Maintains the purchase order system;

Ensures data is entered into the accounting system;

Gives directive for payment on goods and services complying with due process;

Ensures transactions are properly recorded and entered into the computerized accounting
system;

Prepares revenue/ income statements,

Prepares balance sheets,

Prepares monthly financial statements;

Prepares quarterly reports and reports on variances;

Assists with the annual audit,

Follows directives from time to time from the PI and Chief Finance Officer

Qualification and Experience

Should hold a higher Degree in Accounting and Finance preferably with professional
qualification in Accounting like ACCA/ CPA or Diploma in business related field.

A minimum of two years of working experience in a relevant field in the INGO e.g. World
Bank is an added advantage

Computer literacy i.e. experience in use of Microsoft office applications i.e. word, excel and
professional accounting packages.

Ability and willingness to learn World Bank and Government Accounting Procedures

Very well organized and able to work under pressure

Excellent writing, reporting and interpersonal skills

7. Laboratory Technician(1 Position)
Organization: Uganda Martyrs University/ACALISE
Duty Station: Nkozi, Uganda

Key duties and responsibilities

To oversee the general smooth running of the Laboratory but more specifically:

Assist students and Faculty to perform laboratory tests;

Preparing specimens and samples;

Constructing, maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment;

Ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced;

Recording and sometimes interpreting results to present to senior colleagues;

Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks in the Laboratory

Produce periodic reports on performance and safety of the Laboratory.

Qualification and experience

A Bachelors of Science in Laboratory Technology or a Diploma in Laboratory Technology
with a B.Sc. in Chemistry or Biological field from a recognized Institution.

Three years’ experience in an institutional Laboratory is essential.

The Job requires a very active well motivated and knowledgeable person with good
interpersonal skills and flexible work programme.

The right candidate should be able and willing to be trained in modern Laboratory methods
and handling of modern equipment including Biotechnology appliances.
