We are seeking enthusiastic persons comfortable with assuming varied roles within the faculty and with a capacity to engage with and lead a diverse interdisciplinary team. The Faculty invites applications for the following positions at the Lecturer / Senior Lecturer level, effective immediately:

1) LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABLE DESIGN / BUILDING SERVICES (1 FTE*)

Successful applicants will contribute to teaching and research in Environmental Sustainable Design and/or Building Services.  Applicants should have a strong interest in teaching and research in one or both of these areas and an ability to initiate, support and enhance knowledge and skills in design projects.  As part of a team, the appointee will be expected to contribute to the Faculty’s research activities and its interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.  The appointee will also contribute to curriculum development as part of the continual development of programmes in the faculty.

2) LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN (1 FTE*)

Successful applicants will contribute to teaching and research in one or more of the following areas: Tectonics, Design, Design Theory andDesign Integration as well as initiate, support and enhance knowledge and skills in design.  As part of a team, the appointee will be expected to contribute to the Faculty’s research activities and its interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.  The appointee will also contribute to curriculum development as part of the continual development of programmes in the faculty.

3) LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY / CONSTRUCTION (1 FTE*)

Successful applicants will contribute to teaching and research in Building Technology and/or Construction.  Applicants should have a strong interest in teaching and research in one or more of these areas, and an ability to initiate, support and enhance knowledge and skills in design projects.  For Building Technology and Construction, applicants will have an interest and ability to develop and teach courses that convey how building materials and assemblies reinforce and extend the designer’s intentions.  As part of a team, the appointee will be expected to contribute to the Faculty’s research activities and its interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.  The appointee will also contribute to curriculum development as part of the continual development of programmes in the faculty.

4) LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (2 FTE*)

Successful applicants will contribute to teaching and research in one or more of the following areas: Landscape Design, Urbanism, Landscape Ecology, Landscape History and Heritageor Landscape Preservation.  As part of a team, the appointee will be expected to contribute to the Faculty’s research activities and its interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.  The appointee will also contribute to curriculum development as part of the continual development of programmes in the faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will contribute to teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, in design studioprojects, as well as in seminar/special topics courses.  Applicants for positions of Lecturer should have a minimum of a professional degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Engineering (as appropriate).  Teaching/Research experience and/or professional experience are an added advantage.  Applicants for position of Senior Lecturer should, in addition to the above,an advanced degree by research, and/or substantial teaching and research experience.  In all cases, an interest in creatively engaging with the built environments of a developing country is essential.

1) Position: Deputy Registrar (1 Position)

Organization:        Uganda Martyrs University

Duty Station:          Kampala (Rubaga) Campus

Reports to:              Director of the Campus

Academic Qualifications:

The candidate should have a Masters Degree or its equivalent in a relevant field.

 Experience:

The candidate should have three years hands-on practical experience as a Lecturer, Assistant Registrar or the equivalent in a reputable academic Institution.

Accountability Profile:

2) Position:             Project Officer (1 Position)

Duty Station:        UMU Main Campus (Nkozi)

Reports to:                     Deputy Vice-Chancellor, FA

Academic Qualifications:

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.  A Masters Degree will be an added advantage.   Any experience in Project writing is most desirable.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Ability to mobilize key academics and practitioners to respond to calls is critical.
  1. Self driven and capable of mobilizing financial and other resources in the networks created.
  1. Ability to write projects and ensure project funds are approximately used and accounted for.
  1. S/he should possess a high degree of integrity, moral turpitude and highly committed to the mission of the University.

Accountability Profile:

  • To organize Baseline Surveys for upcoming projects
  • To coordinate all the University Projects right from inception to implementation and closing stage
  • To write, review and/or revise project proposals
  • To establish clear project objectives and outcomes as well as an implementation plan in liaison with the project sponsors and beneficiaries.
  • To coordinate with the project implementation teams and ensure that procedures are respected and time schedules are met.
  • To provide accurate and timely narrative and financial reports to Management, sponsors and other stakeholders.
  • To monitor all project resources
  • To provide information and advice to Management and other stakeholders regarding projects
  • To ensure that those involved in projects adhere to the University accountability procedures.
  • Manage the project in the absence of the respective project implementation supervisors

Experience:

2) Position: Security Officer (1 Position)

Duty Station:             UMU Main Campus, Nkozi

Reports to:               Director, Human Resources

Academic Qualifications:

The candidate should have a Bachelors Degree/Diploma or its equivalent in a relevant field and should have adequate training in security fields.

Experience

The candidate should have five years working experience as a Security Personnel with a clean record in a reputable organization.

Personal Attributes

S/he should have good interpersonal relations skills, management, administrative and organizational skills. S/he should have a satisfactory record of service to the community. S/he must posses a high degree of integrity. S/he must be a team player and a witness to ethical values.

Accountability Profile

  • Ensuring the security and safety of staff, students and property of the University
  • Overseeing the security company providing the security services perform their duties in accordance with the contract of service.
  • Ensuring records of attendance of security guards are maintained
  • Liaising very closely with the in-charge of the private security company to share security concerns by the University, the company and other stakeholders in particular, staff, parents, students and the community.
  • Reporting cases to police and follow them to the last conclusion, including testifying in courts of law where necessary.
  • Identifying and reporting security risks and potential threats and advise Management on the best ways to protect staff and equipment of the University.
  • Providing excellent customer care.
  • Organizing fire drills and draw evacuation reparations procedures
  • Making regular reports to Management through the Director-Human Resources on the state of security of the University.

Accountability Profile

  • Coordinating all activities of UMU,Ngetta Campus and serve as thepromoter for the Campus
  • Liaising closely with the various Deans and Directors of faculties and institutes namely: Faculty of BAM, Institute of Ethics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Health Sciences, University Librarian, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Education, School of Arts and Social Sciences, ICT Department, and others which will be offering courses in Ngetta campus

  • To ensure that the Physical Infrastructure is in place and well maintained.
  • Identify staff requirements (Academic and Administrative) for the campus. 3) Position: Assistant Librarian

Organization:                  Uganda Martyrs University

Location:                        Ngetta Campus

Reports to:                     Librarian through the Director of the Campus

Academic Qualifications:

The candidate should have a relevant Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience

The candidate should have three years experience in a Library and a good progress in postgraduate study together with a satisfactory record of service to the community.

Personal Attributes

S/he should have good management, administrative and organizational skills.  S/he should have satisfactory record of service to the community and with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality. S/he must be computer literate.

Accountability Profile

  • Oversee the general administration and management of the campus library.
  • Handling technical services of the library, plan for effective collection development, and assisting the Librarian to draw up a collection Development policy in consultation with department and faculty heads.
  • Liaise with publishers and acquire publisher’s catalogues and other lists regarding the availability of information materials on the market.
  • Acquire bibliographic, cataloguing and classification tools to ensure the availability of information regarding what is available on the market and their proper classification and cataloguing.
  • Catalogue and classify all library books and other information materials
  • Search other Libraries’ electronic databases in order to identify information sources available worldwide and to explore the possibility of engaging in cooperative ventures with other information institutions.
  • In consultation with the Librarian and the Finance department, arrange for the acquisition of suitable information materials for the library.
  • Assist the Librarian in organizing and supervising stock taking exercises at the campus library once a year to ensure security of the library material and the proper keeping of Library records.
  • Assume overall responsibility of the proper maintenance of the library Materials.

4) Position: Computer Technician

Organization:                  Uganda Martyrs University

Reports to:                     Head, ICT through the Director of the Campus

Academic Qualifications:

The candidate should have aBachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, passed with atleast an upper Second.

Experience

The candidate should have three years experience as ICT Technician in a busy Organization.

Accountability Profile

  • Install, configure, and maintain workstations, and peripheral devices in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Perform the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of software applications and suites; ensure compliance with license agreements and copyright legislation.
  • Provide user support for installed workstations, peripheral devices, and standard software applications; diagnose and resolve issues reported to the Help Desk by academic and administrative users.
  • Advise the immediate supervisor of technical issues and consult with vendor support agencies to resolve problems and determine equipment requirements.
  • Collaborate with operations staff to evaluate network requirements and develop solutions to provide the required services; install, configure, and troubleshoot network equipment.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of technical equipment, including system and software configurations and network addressing.
  • Implement software utilities, install hardware devices, and develop procedures to ensure the security and reliability of equipment, software, and data resources.
  • Acquire and maintain requisite technical skills to accurately diagnose and resolve problems and concerns associated with computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Compile on-line and hardcopy operational, procedural, and informational documentation sets for equipment standards, configuration, inventory, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.

5) Position: Estates Officer

  • Ensure effective management of the University Physical assets; land, motor vehicles, buildings, furniture.
  • Maintain all buildings, furnitures/fixtures on campus regularly.

  • Making sure the compost pits are clean and well kept and that all garbage is collected from the compound and disposed off appropriately.

6) Position: Lecturer (2 Positions)

The candidate should ordinarily be a Lecturer. He/she should have a Masters degree in a relevant field.  Having a PhD in the relevant field is an added advantage.

The candidate should have worked at a reputable Institution of Higher Learning for at least 3 years. S/he should have taught courses in Agricultural economics,/Agribusiness, Agronomy, Soil Science and Animal Science at under-graduate level. ACALISE Phd And M.Sc Capacity Building Scholarships / Opportunities

As part of Capacity Building Strategy for ACALISE, it was agreed with the World Bank that UMU builds its internal capacity to support the centre and the whole University at large.  It was therefore stipulated in the ACALISE Implementation Plan (IP) that we shall train a minimum number of eight (8) Ph.Ds and two (2) M.Scs in deficient areas as identifiable by different faculties and schools.

The Scholarships will be tenable in ACALISE Regional Partner Institutions including: Makerere University, Nelson Mandela University, Maathai Wangari Institute of Nairobi.

All themes should rotate around the broad theme of Agro-ecology and Livelihood systems.  Preferred areas include: Agro-ecology, Entrepreneurship, Management, Microfinance, Rural development, health and other related areas.

ACALISE will after selections recommend the students to our Partners for admission.  Those with admission letters of our Partner Universities will have an added advantage.
